Growing up in Far Rockaway, New York gives you a background like no other. The more things change the more they stay the same. I had resigned myself to the fact that as long as I have lived out here if I don't rock with you by now I NEVER will.(pun intended)
I am a homebody. My Paternal grandmother Ms. Betty had thirteen children so I spent my weekends and holidays during my youth with my family. From Friday after school until possibly Monday morning I was on Baisley Boulevard. Boy do I miss and cherish those times.
My days are spent catching up on all the things I missed in my quest to build a career. For a long time I was bitter and angry about no longer working for a company that I dedicated myself to. Then I met my soul mate. He sat me down one day and basically told me the same things my Mother had been telling me all along. The same things my Father would of told me had he lived to witness it. Life is hard. Things happen. Bad things happen to good people. But, after the struggle comes the ease. We are exactly where God needs us to be.
My home is my sanctuary. If I invite you here, believe me it's an honor. My late grandmothers Ms. Betty and Ms. Helen were the same way. So as I go about my days as I strive to be the leader by example, the pillar of a community that has soooo much potential-,yet lacks true, sincere leadership and resources. I no longer feel like "If you don't know me by now". Instead every introduction, every smile can lead to bridging the divide.
